Gathering by the River Reversible Penefold
Gathering by the River Reversible Penefold – inspired by Barbara Egan’s Gathering by the River.
Handmade in Australia from soft, breathable cotton, this reversible Penefold is designed for comfort, movement, and everyday joy.
Wear it on the printed side or the plain side, and enjoy it as an easy, playful piece for warm days and layered moments alike.
Artwork Meaning:
Inspired by Gathering by the River – Blue by Aboriginal artist Barbara Egan, this artwork celebrates life, ceremony, and connection along the Murray River.
It reflects the beauty of gathering by the water — a place of story, belonging, and shared rhythm — while honouring the deep relationship between people, land, and Country.
Material:
Printed side in soft, breathable cotton, paired with a quilting cotton reverse side that has a little more body and structure to give the Penefold its easy A-line shape.
Sizes Available: 80 cm / 100 cm / 110 cm
Fit: Easy A-line flare fit
Length Note: Depending on the child’s height and size selected, the dress may fall around knee to calf length.
Size Notes: The sizes indicated refer to the child’s height range. At the corresponding height, the Penefold is designed to fall around the knee.
Care with Love:
Cold gentle machine wash below 30°C.
Line dry in shade to preserve the richness of the colours and the softness of the fabric.
Please note for our Aboriginal range:
After the first wash, a natural shrinkage of approximately 3–5% may occur, revealing a subtle band of coloured print along the edge of the plain side. This gentle reveal is an intentional part of the design.
Handmade:
Designed and handmade in Sydney, Australia

I will process all your orders in 4 to 6 business days, and send you an email notification with your parcel’s tracking number.

“I love Gathering by the River. It reminds me of nature, of staying grounded, and of the life-giving beauty that holds us. Children are at the very centre of life — from the first kick in the womb to their first cries, they become our world.
When I chose this print, I imagined the river of life: a baby in the cradle, a little girl basking in the sunshine, prancing happily, racing along the riverbanks, and all things joyful. I paired it with brown to continue the feeling of trees by the riverbank — or perhaps the sweetness of chocolate children love. Take your pick.”
