Artwork Meaning:
In Japanese culture, owls (fukurō) are widely regarded as auspicious symbols of good luck and protection from hardship. Their positive meaning is closely tied to wordplay, where fukurō can be understood as “no hardship” and also associated with good fortune. For this reason, owl motifs have long been loved in charms, gifts, and decorative objects that carry wishes for blessing, safety, and happiness.

Material:
Printed side in soft, breathable Japanese cotton, paired with a Japanese denim reverse side that has a little more body and structure to give the Penefold its easy A-line shape.

When I was travelling in Tokyo, I came across a small piece of this print. It took me a long while to understand its meaning and to find the right Japanese denim to pair with it on the reverse side. I love this fabric, with its soft contrasting owls and the blessings they carry. Together with the other limited-edition piece, it almost always sold out on the first day at the markets. This is the last one left, and I wish the very best of luck to whoever brings it home.
